Kaizen Early Years – K2 Program Overview
Timings: Monday to Friday | 9:00 AM – 12:30 PM
By the age of 5, children stand on the threshold of a major transition—from early childhood to formal schooling. At Kaizen Early Years, our K2 program is designed to ensure children are not just academically prepared, but emotionally and socially confident to take this next big step.
With the understanding that 90% of brain development occurs before the age of 6, our K2 year focuses on deepening conceptual understanding, strengthening core skills, and building a sense of responsibility and independence, while still honoring the need for play, movement, and imagination.
Independence & Emotional Growth
K2 is a year of blossoming independence. Children are encouraged to take ownership of their routines, manage their belongings, and make simple choices throughout the day. Our educators act as facilitators—guiding rather than instructing—so children feel trusted, capable, and heard.
We nurture emotional intelligence through reflective circle times, class discussions, and self-expression activities. Children learn to articulate feelings, navigate conflicts with empathy, and build meaningful peer relationships—important foundations for school readiness and life ahead.
Daily rhythms such as shared meals, mindfulness time, and collaborative group work foster a sense of belonging, community, and responsibility.
Readiness for Primary School
As children prepare for the transition to Grade 1, we focus on building the executive functioning skills they’ll need in a school environment—attention span, task completion, goal-setting, and time awareness.
• Children practice structured work cycles with increasing focus and complexity
• Visual schedules and work plans help children become familiar with routines and sequencing
• Partner work and small-group tasks develop cooperative learning and accountability
We align our curriculum to help children meet expectations across different boards.
Language & Literacy Skills
In K2, we strengthen foundational literacy skills by blending phonics, sight reading, storytelling, and creative writing. Children begin to:
• Read simple sentences and short texts with understanding
• Practice independent writing through journals, captions, and guided stories
• Build vocabulary and comprehension through theme-based discussions
Our multilingual environment encourages the use of English as a working language, while also introducing Hindi and Spanish through songs, visuals, and conversation. This approach nurtures both linguistic competence and cultural openness.
Numeracy & Cognitive Thinking
Children explore mathematical concepts through a hands-on, experiential lens—using beads, counters, real objects, and games. Key focus areas include:
• Number sense and operations
• Patterns and sequencing
• Measurement, shapes, and spatial reasoning
• Logical thinking and problem-solving
Beyond numbers, K2 learners investigate the “why” and “how” of things—be it the water cycle, seasons, community helpers, or food systems. Curiosity is the driver, and project-based learning helps them connect ideas across subjects.
Movement & Physical Confidence
Daily movement sessions—indoor and outdoor—support children’s physical wellbeing. We focus on refining both gross and fine motor skills through:
• Obstacle paths, balancing games, and coordinated exercises
• Writing readiness, pencil grip, scissor work, and crafts
• Group games to build sportsmanship and body awareness
Creative Confidence
Our K2 learners engage in open-ended creative activities that encourage divergent thinking. Children are invited to:
• Design with loose parts
• Express themselves through drawing, clay modeling, and painting
• Participate in music, movement, drama, and storytelling sessions
• Reflect on their work and share it with peers
Creativity becomes a way of thinking—not just an activity—and is integrated across all learning areas.
